Family ContributionsJUDGING: No tournament can exist without judges, and we rely on parents to serve this role. We expect each family to be available to provide a judge for each tournament your student attends (we may not call on you for that tournament, but be prepared to judge.) Dues Structure for 2023-2024
Annual Membership Fee: $150
(includes tournament fee for North Mecklenburg and Ardrey Kell tournaments)
NOTE: Please fill out the 2023-2024 registration form before you pay your annual membership fee.
Your annual fee goes toward membership in the National Speech and Debate Association, membership in the Tarheel Forensic League, administrative/tournament fees for MP to compete (separate from individual competitor fees), in-state and out-of-state travel expenses for coaches and chaperones, occasional stipends for hired judges and a small amount of financial assistance for needy students, and new this year it will cover the registration cost for two local tournaments (North Mecklenburg and Ardrey Kell).
Competitors will also pay a fee for each tournament they enter. These fees will typically include an entry fee for the tournament, a transportation fee to cover the bus or flights, lodging costs, and support for coaches' and chaperones' transportation/hotels. Each participant can decide which tournaments to enter, and they will be asked to pay only for those in which they choose to participate. Here are some typical tournament fees:
Local Tournament – 1-day weekend tournament in Mecklenburg County with parent drop-off
Cost per student: $20
Travel Tournament without overnight – 1-day tournament out-of-county requiring bus travel.
Cost per student: $70
Travel Tournament w/ One Overnight – Multi-day, out-of-county tournament requiring bus and one night in a hotel.
Cost per student: $200
Travel Tournament w/ Two Overnights – Multi-day, out-of-region tournament requiring bus and two nights in a hotel.
Typical cost per student: $300
Travel Tournament with Flights and Overnights - Multi-day, out-of-region tournament requiring airfare and multiple nights in a hotel.
Typical cost per student: $400-$600
FINANCIAL AID: Please don't let cost prevent participation! The Myers Park Speech & Debate Foundation provides confidential scholarships to any student who needs assistance. Please contact Annie Lord.
